Choose Your Path
Chapter 4 of Proverbs begins by encouraging us to listen to the instruction of the Word and do not forsake it. It encourages us to retain the Words in our heart and keep the commandments if we choose to live (see vs. 1-4).
Wisdom isn’t something you decide to have and then sit back and wait for it. Wisdom is something you must determine is worth seeking daily. Even though there will be days that it will be difficult to change the way you think or react, it is in those times you must hold fast to the Word of God instructing you in wisdom. Wisdom is a choice of selecting the path you will live. If you choose the path of self indulgence and ease, you will never find wisdom. But, if you choose a steadfast love for the Word of God and apply His Word to your life daily in every situation, wisdom will be found (see wicked living vs. 14-17 & 19; see good living vs.18).
Wisdom is truth applied to our lives. The person who has wisdom will be kind; loyal; trust in the LORD; puts God first; Turns away from evil; knows right from wrong; listens and learns and does what is right. But those who do not seek wisdom are empty; ravaged by circumstances; found without in times of need; faced with loss and cannot find comfort (See Chapters 3-4).
As we are called upon to instruct the next generation; we have a great purpose to provide them with the Words of Wisdom. Let us be faithful in seeking the right path on our own journey so that we can point others to God’s Wisdom (Titus 2:11-13).
Question:
What choices have you made by the path you’ve taken?
What legacy will you leave the next generation with regard to wisdom?
Prayer: LORD, lead us into the paths of righteousness. Help us to make the right choices for our lives and in turn share those steps with the next generation of believers. LORD, let us not take lightly your command to live denying ungodliness and worldly lusts. You have warned us to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world as we look for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of God and our Savior Jesus Christ. We pray that we pass along this legacy of wisdom. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
